How to photograph jewellery for AI styling.
Ornavie practical guide · 1 November 2026
Photograph the real jewellery clearly before asking AI to style it. A useful reference shows the complete outline, visible stones and joins without blur or clipped highlights. Hidden construction needs another view, not a guess.
Prepare the piece and background
Arrange the jewellery naturally on a plain, contrasting surface or suitable holder. Separate overlapping elements so the chain, pendant and drops can be distinguished. Include both earrings when they form a pair, and keep unrelated jewellery out of the frame.
Use soft light and check reflections
Use even, diffused light and inspect bright metal areas before taking the final photograph. If a reflection removes the edge of a setting or makes a stone unreadable, adjust the light or camera angle. Avoid colour filters and beauty effects on the source.
Capture the whole piece and the small details
Take a clear main view with the complete jewellery inside the frame. Add an oblique or rear view where it reveals construction, and detail photographs of complex connectors, studs or fastenings. Keep the camera steady and check focus at full size.
A close-up complements the full view. It does not establish the whole piece’s proportions by itself. Keep measured dimensions and verified material details in the product record.
Decide whether the reference is usable
- Can you follow the outline without an edge disappearing into the background?
- Can you distinguish the stones and joins you will later check in the output?
- Is the entire pair or set present, without a cut-off drop or clasp?
- Does the photograph represent the piece’s appearance without a strong colour cast?
If the answer is unclear, take another photograph before generating. Keep the unedited original so the reviewer and customer have a reference.
Review the output against these same photographs
Use the jewellery photo review checklist after generation. A clear source gives the model more to copy and makes your review quicker. Learn how Ornavie’s photo workflow connects approved images to catalogues and reels.
